Friday night Z and I had an impromptu date night. After lots of cooking during the week we decided a dinner out would be a nice change of pace.
We decided that as tempting as it was to head down the street to our favorite restaurant, Red Star, we would try out somewhere new. It amazes me that even after living in Fells Point for six years there are still so many places I have yet to try.
The restaurant has a spacious open floor plan with a bar in the center and dining areas all around.
Since it was Friday….and it was happy hour….we ordered two of their specialty cocktails.
Z was instantly sold on the tequila-based “Smokin’ Presidente.” The menu describes it as…
“Slightly adventurous and totally bold. Milagro tequila, agave nectar, fresh citrus, black lava salt rim and a jalapeno “boat” with a shot of milagro.”
Z LOVED it. On the opposite end of the spectrum I went with the “Gingertini.”
“Eclectic, trendy, and perfectly paired. Stoli gala applik, doman decanton ginger liquear, bruised mint, fresh lemons and cane sugar with a splash of soda water.”
I love anything with mint and loved the way it complimented the apple flavors.
We enjoyed our cocktails while browsing the menu, which had a good variety of items.
There were some delicious sounding salads, tasty wraps and burgers as well as some larger entrees.
We ultimately decided to split a few dishes between the two of us.
For starters, we were sold on the “Soup of the Day” which was a pumpkin soup with crab. Although I’m not the biggest crab fan I AM a big pumpkin fan. This was delightfully warm which was perfect after the brisk walk from our house.
There were two salads that caught my eye, and since Z and I are going through a pear obsession right now we went with the “Spanish Pear Salad”
This involved sangria poached pears, cranberries, pecans, blue cheese, balsamic glaze, all in an apple cider vinaigrette. The portion size was huge was made it great for sharing.
Lastly, Z wanted to try out one of the other daily specials: lobster mac & cheese.
We apparently misunderstood when the waitress was mentioning it because we were under the impression that it was just a small side item. We were wrong. Out came this HUGE plate of pasta. The size hit us again when we got the bill…$20!!!! If we had known it was that much we wouldn’t have ordered it.
I tend to avoid dishes such as this these days so only had a few bites. While it was good it was a bit too rich for my taste. Z had some and brought the rest home for lunch.
Besides the surprise costly mac & cheese we really enjoyed Townhouse. It has ample space, a trendy décor, and a variety of menu items to suit many different tastes.
For anyone who may be interested, they have good happy hour deals as well. Both drinks and food are discounted. Who doesn’t love that?
