Last Friday I had the chance to revisit one of my favorite local restaurants, Nacho Mamas in Canton.

I’ve spent many an evening there and it’s been one of my go-to destinations for out of town guests.

My friend Megan was in town from Florida and she specifically requested a stop here during her visit. I picked her up from the airport and went straight there!biglink Explore Baltimore: Nacho Mamas (Canton, MD)

Nacho Mama Basics

If you’ve never been, there are a few things you need to know about Nacho Mamas before you go. I shall now share with you my wisdom…

1) It is a very small establishment and they are therefore very strict when it comes to seating. Be forewarned that they WILL NOT seat you until your entire party has arrived.

2) Your menu is also your placemat. Don’t try and give it back to the waitress.

3) Being a Mexican restaurant, margaritas are their specialty. The claim to fame? Hubcap margaritas…with plenty of straws to share.1 nacho mamas hubcap thumb Explore Baltimore: Nacho Mamas (Canton, MD)

I don’t think I could handle a hubcap these days (I’m too old) so this trip I went with a “Skinny Girl Margarita” which consisted of tequila, Grand Marnier and lime juice. It was delightful.

Megan also gave the “Razzie Rita” a seal of approval.

3) The minute you sit down you will get some chips & salsa for snacking. The chips are hearty with just the right amount of salt and the salsa is awesome.

4) In terms of food, they break their menu down into categories such as “B4 Dinner Things”, “Things in Bowls”,“Mamas Favorites”, etc.

By far one of the tastiest options are the quesadillas which come in 13 different specialty flavors including crab & gouda, Philly cheese steak and Chicken Chesapeake.

For those who may not be so keen on heavy-cheesy Mexican fare or have sensitive stomachs like I do, there are lighter options as well. I ordered the Strawberry Spinach Salad with grilled chicken. The combination of fresh strawberries and crumbled feta was amazing.

  1. “Leafy things in bowls” <— love that. I've never been to Baltimore but I'll have to check this place out if I ever make it there! Whenever people come to visit D.C., I always take them to Busboys & Poets, one of my very favorite restaurants that is laid back but also has ridiculously good food.
