[Explore Baltimore] Kooper’s Tavern, Fells Point

Recently, our friends Derek and AJ drove up from DC to spend the weekend in Baltimore.

Derek is no stranger to Bmore. He helped me move in to my last residence back in 2008 (mattresses up and over the roof deck and everything!) and has ventured up to visit many times both before and after. 1 lunch on roofdeck thumb [Explore Baltimore] Koopers Tavern, Fells Point

AJ on the other hand has limited Charm City experience and was eager to see the sights.

Derek suggested meeting with Z and I in Fells Point for lunch. I was in charge of the “where” part and decided it needed to be somewhere that was reflective of what our neighborhood is all about to really give AJ the proper experience.

We went with Kooper’s Tavern. koopers tavern fells point md thumb [Explore Baltimore] Koopers Tavern, Fells Point

Although I hadn’t been there in quite some time, I used to frequent it right after I moved to Fells. My co-worker at the time worked as a hostess one night a week so we spent many an evening there (especially since I lived a mere half a block away). koopers tavern fells point maryland thumb [Explore Baltimore] Koopers Tavern, Fells Point

Located right on the water in Fells, Kooper’s has a great “neighborhood bar” type of feel. As I mentioned, I hadn’t been/eaten here in years and was welcomed with a newly restyled menu!

There are lots of options consisting mostly of your standard tavern fare. Kooper’s is most well known for its burgers and includes a “build your own” option. Tuesday night is “burger night” which friends of mine (hi Andy!) used to frequent religiously. All burgers are discounted starting at $5.

Having eaten here a number of times Z had his heart set one of those burgers.

Derek opted for a wrap:

{Ahi Tuna Wrap: grilled with wasabi aioli, teryaki glaze and “50/50” fries…aka half sweet potato, half regular. Clever.}

I went with their seasonal salad, with a few minor adjustments:

{Winter Salad: field greens romaine, cranberries, Bosc pear, root vegetables, walnuts, goat cheese, maple cinnamon vinaigrette (on the side), topped with grilled ahi tuna}

It was large and in charge! Unfortunately beets are not a part of my life so they were left untouched. The rest? Delicious. Hands down the best part was the maple cinnamon dressing. Oh. My. Gosh. Phenomenal.

I loved it so much I went on a Google spree for a recipe so I can recreate it. Thanks to the site Choosing Raw I can make my very own maple cinnamon vinaigrette. Score!

Z and I had a nice time catching up with Derek and AJ, reminiscing about our wedding (which they joined us in St. Lucia for) and discussing everything from blogging and food to jobs and life.

If you’re in Fells Point, I’d definitely recommend checking it out. Although it was crowded when we arrived (2:00 on a Saturday) it cleared out considerably by the time we left. Choose your timing carefully to avoid a wait.

  1. That looks my kind of place! I haven’t seen an ahi tuna wrap anywhere yet. That’s definitely something I would have ordered.
